Thoughts on Psalm 119 (part 3)

The psalmist knows – compared to the word of the Father everything else pales in comparison.

The world and everything in it will pass, but God’s word will stand. It gives guidance and protects us from making bad decisions. It gives wisdom beyond our human ability and understanding.

It takes faith to trust in God’s word because many times it goes against our understanding. But the more we obey in faith, the more God will show that He is true. I think that’s what happened to the psalmist, the psalmist knows because he has experienced the love and the power (and the power of the love!) of God.

Time for personal application.

Thoughts on Psalm 119 (part 2)

That’s interesting… Each verse is talking about / has at least one of the following words:
• laws
• testimonies
• ways
• precepts
• statutes
• commandments
• rules
• word
• promise
• faithfulness
• judgements

Interesting!! All 176 verses! Well, almost, there’s some “combo breakers” near the end, but it’s probably just translation issues – not able to translate to a single English word. But the theme and style is the same all throughout!

I have to read this chapter maybe two more times. Asking myself, what is it about God’s word that prompted the psalmist/s to write so much?

….Interesting!

Thoughts on Ephesians 4:1-16

To walk in a manner worthy of the calling in which we have been called (I hope to, I want to.)

What does that look like?
• humility
• gentleness
• patience
• bearing one another in love
• eager to maintain unity of the Spirit

We must be “one”, because:
• One Body
• One Spirit
• One Hope
• One Lord
• One Faith
• One Baptism
• One God and Father of all

God gives us “gifts” according to His grace to equip us for the work of ministry. These are given to us for the purpose of building up the body of Christ. We might not be fully united now, but we should just continue to seek and obey God. To allow God’s Spirit to work in and through our lives..

until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,
so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.
Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped,
when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. (Ephesians 4:13-16 ESV)
